In December, Flatiron employees came together to support the communities where we work and live as part of the Annual Giving Campaign. At offices and project sites across North America, teams raise money, donate food, collect toys and volunteer for local charities. In 2014, the campaign raised $47,000 for more than 10 charities, in addition to volunteering time and donating toys, food and other items.

In New York, E.E. Cruz employees collected food for NYC Food Bank, New York City’s major hunger relief organization, which provides free meals to New Yorkers in need. Employees collected 683 pounds of food, which is equivalent to about 570 meals for families in need

In Calgary, Flatiron employees organized a silent auction to benefit Inn From the Cold, a local organization that provides emergency shelter, support and programs to homeless children, their families and others in need. The auction raised $1,790 in all.

Employees held a toy drive for the Ronald McDonald House, which supports seriously ill children and their families. Donations were also made to the Polinsky Children’s Center, an emergency children’s shelter, and House of Ruth, an emergency domestic violence shelter.

Flatiron-Ruby's PlaceIn Northern California, employees on the Oakland Airport Connector project have been giving back in their community year-round. Employees fundraised from July through December to benefit local charity Ruby’s Place, raising more than $15,000 for the women and children’s shelter. The team also held nine donation drives that provided Ruby’s Place with their most needed everyday items. Donations came in from 42 sources including vendors, subcontractors, employees and partners.

Flatiron Ruskin Dam Charity DonationsEmployees working on the Ruskin Dam project in Mission, BC raised $2,530 and collected food for St. Joseph’s food bank, along with employees from the project’s joint venture partners, subcontractors and owner BC Hydro.

The holiday party in Richmond, B.C., Flatiron’s main office in Canada, was also a three-part fundraiser. A silent auction raised more than $7,600 for Covenant House Vancouver, a homeless shelter for young people. $1,224 was collected through bar sales and donated to the United Way. In addition, 72 gifts were collected for the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau, a holiday toy charity.

Northeast Anthony Henday Drive project staff, which included Flatiron employees and joint venture partner employees from Dragados, AECON, and Lafarge, raised $11,000 for Dogs with Wings. The charitable organization trains service dogs to assist people (focusing on children) with a variety of challenges. The joint venture also donated an additional $5,000, for a total of $16,000 to benefit the charity. The money will sponsor the complete costs of training a dog from puppy-hood until placement – a several-years-long process.

Boys and Girls Club BikesIn Colorado, Corporate and Civil Division employees collected about 50 toys for A Precious Child, a charity that aids disadvantaged and displaced children and families in the state. During a leadership event, employees built and donated 12 bikes to a Denver Boys and Girls Club.

Flatiron’s Annual Giving Campaign has harnessed the generosity of employees since 2009. The campaign was honored as one of the construction industry’s best charitable programs in 2011 with an AGC in the Community Award.

Thank you to all the employees who did so much to make this year’s Giving Campaign a success.
