California Projects Win Big Accolades

California is the site of some of Flatiron’s most transformational projects, and we’re thrilled to spotlight some recent awards for our work in the Golden State.

Our Coast Boulevard Sea Cave Emergency Stabilization Project won the Engineering News-Record award in the 2020 Small Project (under $10 million) category. The project won in that same category last fall in the regional ENR California competition, which qualified it for ENR’s nationwide competition.

The Sea Cave Stabilization Project had Flatiron using its expertise to reinforce a San Diego-area cave (and the roadway above it) from collapsing. The City of San Diego was the project owner.

Further north in the Los Angeles area’s San Fernando Valley, Flatiron’s Route 210 Roadway Rehabilitation Project took home AGC California’s Best Heavy Civil Project Over $100 million prize.

The 210 Project for Caltrans extended pavement life, improved traffic operations and enhanced safety over an amazing 77 lane miles of heavily used highway. The judges were impressed by Flatiron’s innovative technical methods and construction approach that maximized quality and mobility in a safe manner.

Flatiron is currently working on an additional Route 210 project for Caltrans, rehabilitating pavement from I-5 to the Wheatland Avenue Undercrossing.
