Flatiron breaks ground on Steveston Interchange Project

Flatiron has started work on the Steveston Interchange Project in Richmond, British Columbia. This is an important element of the Highway 99 Tunnel Program to improve travel time and safety along the Highway 99 corridor.

A July 7th groundbreaking ceremony marks the official start of construction on the $87.5 Million Design-Build Flatiron project that is being delivered by TI Corp and being funded by the Province of British Columbia.

Among those participating in the groundbreaking were B.C. Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation Rob Fleming, MLA for Richmond-Steveston Kelly Greene, MLA for Richmond-Queensborough Aman Singh, MLA for Richmond-South Centre Henry Yao, Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie and Musqueam Indian Band Chief Wayne Sparrow.

Initial construction activities are ramping up at the Steveston Interchange site this summer, with clearing and utility relocations underway in the upcoming weeks. Major construction will begin later this year, with opening of the new interchange slated for 2025.

The Steveston Interchange Project is a key part of the Highway 99 Tunnel Program to improve safety and mobility along Highway 99. The project will replace the existing two-lane overpass structure at Steveston Highway and Highway 99 with a new structure that accommodates two eastbound lanes and three westbound lanes. As part of the broader program, the new Steveston Interchange will improve connections for vehicles, transit users, pedestrians and cyclists.
