Critical Denver-Area Safety Project Substantially Complete

Aging bridges torn down; new, safer structure built in their place.

Flatiron has reached substantial completion on its I-76 York to Dahlia Road project for the Colorado Department of Transportation, making a busy stretch of Colorado interstate safer.

“We couldn’t be happier with the delivery of this project for the Adams County community,” said Grant Johns, Vice President and District Manager for Colorado. “The Colorado Department of Transportation was a great partner, supporting all our needs. We also worked alongside excellent subcontractors, many of whom are Disadvantaged Business Enterprise certified.”

A core element of the project was the demolition of the westbound and eastbound I-76 bridges over York Street. CDOT determined that the structures, built in 1967, needed to be removed and replaced for the long-term safety of the traveling public. A single, stronger bridge is now open with wider shoulders for safer travel. I-76 is heavily used by commercial vehicles, and ensuring the new bridge could withstand heavy use was a top priority for Flatiron’s team.

Additionally, the project team installed fresh pavement on I-76 and on connecting ramps, keeping safety in mind. A new auxiliary lane feeding onto the interstate will alleviate a major choke point.
