San Diego Terminal 1 Exceeds Sustainability Goals
Flatiron pledges to send no waste to landfills by the end of 2045.
Flatiron is committed to building a sustainable future — we pledge to send no waste to landfills by the end of 2045. At the San Diego Terminal 1 project, we’re exceeding our sustainability goals by re-using and recycling building materials and waste.
Key achievements:
- Recycled 55,000 tons of concrete to be used as infill aggregate, with concrete and encase reinforcement being 100% recyclable.
- Reuse of formwork and support materials.
- Retaining walls and bridges designed to last 75 years, exceeding the standard 50-year lifespan.
- A new three-lane access road will reduce traffic on nearby thoroughfares by thousands of vehicles.
San Diego T1 will deliver a safe, forward-thinking design to be enjoyed by the travelling public for generations to come. Learn more about Flatiron’s commitment to sustainability.
