Sarah Tacker Receives Ethel S. Birchland Lifetime Achievement Award

The American Road & Transportation Builders Association has awarded Sarah Tacker, Vice President & Northern California District Manager, the Ethel S. Birchland Lifetime Achievement Award.

The ARTBA brings together all facets of the transportation construction industry to responsibly advocate for infrastructure investment and policy that meet the nation’s need for safe and efficient travel.  Market development and protection is ARTBA’s core advocacy mission.

The ARTBA bestows the award to individuals who demonstrate outstanding leadership, long-term service in the industry’s public or private sectors, and dedication to advancing innovation and other women leaders.

Sarah started with Flatiron as an intern in 1998. She has risen through the ranks, contributing her expertise to landmark Bay Area projects such as the Oakland Bay Bridge Skyway and Presidio Parkway, in addition to the John Audubon cable-stayed bridge in Louisiana.

Along with her operational leadership, Sarah actively advocates for women in construction.  She serves as lead advisor for Flatiron and E.E. Cruz’s Women Employee Resource Group and sits on the Construction Industry Force Account Council board and the Caltrans Contracting Partnering Steering Committee. She also helped establish the Women in Heavy Civil Committee within The Beavers, a heavy engineering construction association, creating scholarships and networking opportunities for women in the field.

Congratulations, Sarah! You exemplify the values of the Ethel S. Birchland Award, helping to pave the way for future industry leaders.
